The challenge
The insurer’s special investigations unit suspected staged collisions in two metropolitan areas but could not see the pattern: claimants, drivers, passengers, witnesses and repair shops were different on every claim.
What the insurer did
Using Concord Commercial and Kinship identity assurance, investigators resolved three years of claims against licensed reference data. Kinship showed that people who appeared as strangers on different claims shared addresses, telephone numbers and vehicles, and that the same seven repair shops and two clinics recurred.
Results
The unit linked 187 claims to 96 people and referred the case to prosecutors. The insurer estimates that it avoided $7.3 million in fraudulent claims in the following year.
Every claim looked ordinary on its own. Together they were obviously one operation.
