— Tellwright Systems, Inc. today launched Handset, a device intelligence product that extracts and analyzes data from mobile phones and tablets lawfully in an agency’s possession. Handset supports more than 9,000 device models at launch and sends extracted messages, contacts, call records, locations and media directly into the relevant case in Concord.

Digital evidence is now part of almost every investigation, and agencies’ forensic laboratories are under strain. In a survey of 212 agencies that Tellwright commissioned this year, the median wait for a device examination was 41 days.

“Every day a phone sits in an evidence locker is a day a victim waits,” said Damon Pruett, chief executive officer of Tellwright. “Handset lets a trained examiner do in an afternoon what used to take weeks, and it puts the results where the investigator is already working.”

Handset is available to law enforcement and government agencies in the United States. Every extraction requires the examiner to record the legal authority for it before the extraction begins.
